National Award For Warriors

The great and the good of British Speedway gathered last night (Friday) to celebrate the successes of the UK 2019 season with awards being presented to clubs and individuals from all three divisions of the sport.

The Wightlink Warriors were represented by co-promoters Barry Bishop and Martin Widman, team manager Jackie Vatcher and captain Ben Morley and it was an astonished Island contingent who were roundly applauded as the club were named the National Development League’s Most Improved Club.

With no prior knowledge that the award was coming the Warriors’ way, Bishop and Widman were rather stunned to be called forward to collect the trophy and even the following morning Bishop was still trying to understand just how the honour was achieved. He said, “Martin and I were taken aback and surprised to win the NDL Most Improved Club of 2019 at last night’s Awards night in Coventry. Having said that it is an award for everyone at the club who make the WIGHTLINK Warrior experience on race day something we are rightly proud of. Thank you.”

Next up in the cycle of award events is the World Speedway Riders Association (WSRA) annual dinner next weekend. Last year the Warriors were named the WSRA Community Club of 2018; could they make it a double in 2019?
