Warriors Planning Winter Warmer

The Warriors are planning an off-season treat for track racing enthusiasts with plans now coming together for a multi-disciplined race meeting at the Smallbrook Stadium in Ryde on Saturday 16th December.

Explaining the concept, Wightlink Warriors Co-Owner Barry Bishop said,

“I know many of our supporters were disappointed that our 2023 summer season was somewhat shorter than originally planned and it was suggested that it would be nice to end the calendar year if we could offer something on-track that was both interesting and novel.

That idea triggered a few phone calls to our friends in the track racing community and with plenty of positive feedback we intend to run a pre-Christmas ‘Winter Warmer’ training meeting that will feature youth speedway, development speedway, grasstrack GT140 racing and Flat Track. It will be the perfect preparation for the 2024 season.

Spectators will be more than welcome to attend and provisionally we plan to start around 11.00 am and run through a mixed programme until approximately 4.00 pm. We will of course firm these times up just as soon as possible.

Businesses or individuals interested in sponsorship of any part of the event should email me at speedwayonthisland@yahoo.co.uk and any other questions that people may have can come to me on that email.

I really hope that as many of our regulars as possible will be able to get along for some festive fun and of course mainland visitors will be given the usual warm Warrior welcome. This may be a training race meeting but it’s sure to bring out the best in riders seeking to gain a little bit extra for 2024.

Entry will be £5.00 for adults with those aged 16 and under free.

The Premier Lounge and The Retreat Snack Bar will, of course, be open along with all our usual race day things.”
