Warriors Look To Extend League Lead

This week’s track action at Smallbrook on 29 June sees the Wightlink Warriors in four team competition against sides representing Plymouth, Cradley and Sittingbourne in Round 2 of the Nora No Brakes Racing League.

Following a winning start in Round 1 at Iwade, the Warriors returned to Smallbrook with a four-point advantage over second place Cradley and whilst the side will be going all-out to extend that advantage, they will have to do so without the unlucky Rhys Naylor. His wrist injury sustained in last week’s home win over Rye House has not healed sufficiently for him to return and the Warriors will bring in Brayden McGuinness as a very able deputy to join forces with Ben Morley, George Congreve, and Arran Butcher (pictured).

Make no mistake. The Warriors are going to face some serious challenges as the visiting sides have lined up impressive fire power with Smallbrook specialists aplenty. Plymouth have drafted in Nora British Open Champion Jason Edwards; Sittingbourne have moved quickly to bring in last week’s star turn Steve Boxall and Cradley have former Warriors Alfie Bowtell and Connor Coles leading their charge to overturn the Island side’s lead.

Round 1 result: IOW 32, Cradley 28, Sittingbourne 22, Plymouth 14.

Looking ahead to the meeting Warriors co-owner Barry Bishop said,

“After last week’s classic opener, I think we have another fantastic meeting to look forward to. Ben, Rhys, George, and Arran rode so consistently at Iwade in Round 1 and I know that they have no intention of giving away that hard fought lead. It’s a shame that Rhys can’t ride this week because of injury however Brayden is an ideal replacement and will want to shine.

Our opposition have clearly seen the threat we pose because they have recruited really talented riders to test our mettle nevertheless, we are up for the challenge and with the fans fantastic support from the terraces I’m sure we’ll be treated to even more exciting racing”.

Gates at Smallbrook open at 5.15pm with demonstration races from 6.10pm and the main event starting at 7.00pm. Admission is by cash or card on the night – no advance booking is needed.
