Meeting Preview - Four Team Tournament Sponsored By The On & Off Track Volunteers

To add to the variety of the speedway fayre on offer, this Thursday (31 May) the Island promoting team present something a little different in the shape of a four team tournament that will feature the ‘Wightlink’ Warriors, ‘Wightlink’ Wizards, Weymouth Wildcats and Exeter Falcons.

With all available Warrior riders programmed to compete alongside other popular National League racers, the event runs over sixteen heats with one rider from each team in each race. The line-ups look really well balanced so a very close contest can be expected.

Fully aware of the efforts of the Wildcats and Falcons management teams, Barry Bishop and Martin Widman have created an opportunity for these two trackless clubs to garner some vital publicity in their efforts to re-establish speedway in two previous racing hot spots. Having both sides on track is bound to add weight to the unceasing local efforts of the folk dedicated to the re-birth of these popular clubs.

The expected line-ups are:

Exeter ‘Chris Richards’ Falcons: Henry Atkins, Tom Brennan, Ryan Terry-Daley, Joe Alcock.

Isle of Wight ‘Wightlink’ Warriors: Ben Hopwood, Danno Verge, Chris Widman, Shaun Tedham.

Isle of Wight ‘Wightlink’ Wizards: Georgie Wood, Jamie Bursill, Tom Woolley, Joe Lawlor.

Weymouth ‘Damers Blinds’ Wildcats: Danyon Hume, Kelsey Dugard, Bradley Andrews, Alex Spooner.

As this meeting falls during the school half-term holiday, the Warriors will hope to see even more youngster join the growing band of children who join in the fun on race night. Under 16’s are admitted free with a paying adult and arrangements have been made for the kids to receive free stickers, posters, whistles, sweet vouchers and a very special water based Warriors tattoo and at the speedway interval all the youngster are allowed on to the track to take part in the weekly one lap dash of the circuit either on foot or by bike.

And so as not to leave the grown-ups with nothing to do whilst the kids are having fun, this week the club are holding a mega book event where, for a small donation to club funds, supporters will be able to choose a title from a wide range of adult and children’s offerings, both fiction and non-fiction.

As always gates will open at 5.30 pm with open pit access for half an hour from 5.45 pm, demonstration laps will be on track around 6.20 pm with the main rider parade at 6.45 pm and the first race starting at 7.00 pm sharp.
