Congratulations to Eastbourne Eagles who beat Mildenhall Fen Tigers 98-81 on aggregate to win the National League Championship. Having built up a 19 point advantage from their home leg, the Eagles produced a workmanlike performance in Suffolk to stifle the Fen Men whose 46-44 home win fell well short off their usual high numbers.
Despite an unbeaten record in the regulation league season, Mildenhall will rue a succession of unfortunate injuries just ahead of the play-off finals coinciding with the Eagles hitting top form at just the right time. The Championship trophy will sit nicely alongside their KO Cup success whilst Mildenhall will have to make do with the 2018 National Trophy despite producing some outstanding team performances during the season.
Immediately after the defeat, Mildenhall Promoter Kevin Jolly announced that he would be stepping down after eight years with the club going up for sale.
