Wightlink September Showdown

With the end of the speedway season on the horizon, the Warriors management are putting plans in place to round off the racing year with a very special meeting - the Wightlink Summer Showdown - on Thursday 6th September.

Whilst the teams’ attention is currently focused on next Thursday’s important home meeting against Eastbourne and the away trip to Buxton the following weekend, arrangements are starting to take shape for the last meeting at The Andrew Younie Stadium which will feature:

Martin's Warriors v Barry's Warriors

A retro style 13 heat team event with riders 1 to 5 taking four rides and the two reserve riders taking three rides.

Kev's Wizards v Sid's Wizards

A Southern Development League (SDL) style meeting over six heats integrated into the main meeting as successfully tested three weeks ago.

Reserve Challenge

The four reserve riders and top 4 SDL riders to meet in two heats with the top two going on to a final for which a winner’s trophy will be awarded.

Grand Finale

The top four point’s scorers in the main event will come together for what promises to be a blockbuster last race to round off the season.

Invitations have been sent out to a number of riders who are favourites on the Island and the line-ups will be published shortly.

As always, the mascots will be out for demonstration rides, the last kids running/cycle race of the season is bound to be hotly contested and there are definitely one or two surprises booked in that will add to the feel good factors on the night.

Co-promoter Barry Bishop said, “We want to round off our racing year with something a little different that could accommodate the Warriors and Wizards and reflect well on the club as a whole. The format we are going to use will achieve that and will also lend itself to some other surprises that we hope the fans will enjoy and remember as we go off for the winter break. It will be a really fun night – you better believe it! – but don’t forget Eastbourne are here first on 30th so I hope we will be well supported for both meetings.”
