Meeting Preview - Silver Ski Holidays 'Fours'

This week’s action on Thursday (25 July) will see sixteen races and feature four teams going head to head in a three round series that will see similar events at Plymouth on Friday and Kent a week on Monday.

Backed by Silver Ski Holidays, the long established winter sports specialists owned by Kent speedway promoter Len Silver, the original plan was to include Mildenhall as one of the four competing sides, however the Fen Tigers have had to withdraw because of a problem accommodating their home leg and a very interesting composite side has been assembled under the banner of the Breem Construction Stars.

The Stars will include the feisty Luke Bowen returning after a serious leg injury as well as the vastly experienced speedway, sand-track, long-track and grasstrack master Paul Hurry who is also closely involved in a coaching role with GB’s younger riders.

Kent look like the team to beat, but will have to do without Drew Kemp who has other commitments. His place will be filled by their former captain and asset Jack Thomas backed up by red hot Anders Rowe and talented teenagers Jordan Jenkins and the explosive Dan Gilkes making his Island debut.

The sweeping Smallbrook circuit will hold no fears for the Plymouth quartet who have two team victories on the Island already this season. Pair’s champion Richard Andrews returns after retaining his title with Scott Campos last week whilst tall scoring Ben Wilson will be a real handful as will his back up riders Adam Extance and Luke Chessell.

That leaves the Warriors who have concerns over the availability of both Georgie Wood and Scott Campos. Whilst Ben Morley and Danno Verge are confirmed starters, Wood is likely to have to sit this meeting out. The sports regulations require Wood who has been unwell, to serve a seven day suspension for missing an official fixture (i.e. the Belle Vue away meeting last Monday) because of a non-speedway related absence, whilst Campos is currently suffering the after effects of a heavy fall in heat 10 at Belle Vue and may need a few more days to fully recover. Suitable replacement riders are currently being arranged.

Warriors co-promoter Barry Bishop said, “Another week and another innovative meeting for the fans to enjoy. It’s the Fours this week and my thanks to Len Silver from Kent for putting the idea of a southern based tournament together. It’s a shame we have lost Mildenhall but the Breem Stars won’t let anyone down and whilst we are disappointed to go into the meeting without Georgie and Scott, we are lining up replacements who will give their all for the Warrior cause. It promises to be another full on evening for the first week of the school summer holidays and I for one can’t wait”.
