The Premier Lounge at the Andrew Younie Smallbrook Stadium was the venue for the second community Christmas dinner for 50 elderly or isolated Island residents who may otherwise spend Christmas alone.
Building on the positive response from last year's event, the 'Wightlink' Warriors, Tesco, Island Foods, Ryde Taxis and Smallbrook Stadium united to deliver a splendid 3 course traditional lunch followed by party games, music and dancing. Father Christmas also found time to drop in spreading his own unique brand of festive cheer reflected in the happy smiles and joviality enjoyed by all.
Speedway Co-promoter Martin Widman broke off from his washing up duties to say "What a fantastic day we've all had. It warms our hearts to be able to gather these folks together and give them an afternoon to remember as we approach Christmas and we must not forget the outstanding help received from our commercial supporters who have given their services willingly to make this a truly special day. Also a big thank you to the team of volunteers who worked seamlessly to make everything go with a swing".
