Meeting Preview - Warriors v Belle Vue Colts (NL) & Wizards v Birmingham (MSDL)

Saturday, August 17, 2019

Isle of Wight speedway fans can look forward to another twenty-one race programme this TUESDAY (20 August) when the Wightlink Warriors try to tame the Colts from Belle Vue in the National League whilst  immediately afterwards, the Wightlink Wizards will be looking to face down the Bulls from Birmingham in the Midland & Southern Development League.

The Colts arrive on the Island with a frisky bunch of youngsters all boasting bags of potential and pushing hard to cement an end of season play-off spot. With Island lover Leon Flint and Championship regular  Kyle Bickley spearheading their assault, there will be no room for complacency or missing focus in the Warrior ranks, especially as there is still some doubt about the ongoing fitness of Georgie Wood and Danno Verge. Contingency plans are in place have been put in place in the event of either or both having to sit the meeting out, however assuming all is well the expected line-ups are:

Warriors: Georgie Wood, Chad Wirtzfeld, Scott Campos, Danno Verge, Ben Morley, Connor King, Chris Widman.

Colts: Kyle Bickley, Ben Rathbone, Jordan Palin, Danny Phillips, Leon Flint, TBC, Connor Bailey.

The Wizards face an equally tough meeting against a Brummies side who have opted to send their very strongest side which includes three current National League regulars in their declaration. That said, the Wizards are eager to meet the challenge head on and they too have named their strongest quartet for what promises to be an absorbing six heats.

Wizards: Chad Wirtzfeld, Jamie Sealey, Chris Watts, Connor King.

Bulls: Tom Spencer, Bailey Fellows, Arran Butcher, Sheldon Davies.

Warrior’s co-promoter is expecting more top draw speedway this week and said, “The visit of the Colts is always a highlight of our season and to have the Wizards on duty as well makes me think we are going to have a fantastic double meeting. The Colts team is packed with riders who have the potential to be real stars of the future, but it is important that we look after our own situation first and foremost, especially as I do believe that we still have a chance of the play-offs. The boys know that they will have to scrap for every point and some great crowd backing will help the riders tremendously.

We then have the Wizards doing their last league meeting of the season so I would like all our supporters to stay after the Colts meeting and cheer the Wizards on. They have been a credit to our club this season and I would be delighted if they could sign off with a win.”

This week, for ANYONE aged 33, it is free admission as part of the weekly age initiative being run by the club. Proof of age is required at the turnstile to benefit from this promotion. Otherwise, the usual pricing and admission arrangements apply with gates opening at 5.30 pm ahead of the first race at 7.00 pm.
