CHEETAHS COMPLETE

Friday, July 26, 2019

Nathan Stoneman, Charlie Brooks and Shaun Tedham will complete the Oxford Cheetahs’ line-up for the one-off challenge against the Isle of Wight Warriors at the Smallbrook Stadium in Ryde next Thursday (August 1st).

The trio join Danyon Hume, Connor Coles, Ryan Terry-Daley and Jamie Sealey in Cheetahs’ septet, with former World No 2 Gordon Kennett as team manager.

Oxfordshire-based Stoneman is a quality act at National League level, and he scored a full 15-point maximum for Plymouth at Ryde in early May.

He recently spent a spell on the sidelines recovering from a knee injury.

Stoneman said: “I’m delighted to be riding for Oxford in their special meeting on the Isle Of Wight.  “I live in Greater Leys, which is just around the corner from the Oxford track, while I work for former Cheetah Spencer Timmo, for his company SD Timmo Car Sales.  My father-in-law Stuart Baker has been a lifelong fan and he’s excited that I’m going to be riding for Cheetahs, since he’s passionate about the club.  I really enjoy riding the Isle of Wight track at the Smallbrook Stadium.  It’s a big, fast open track, and it’s a got a few bumps as well.  It’s possible to race around there - it’s not a follow-my-leader-type track.  You can miss the gate by quite a margin and still win.  We’ll go there and try to get a victory, because the campaign to revive speedway at the stadium in Oxford needs all the publicity that it can get.”

Charlie Brooks is just 17.  The talented teenager burst on the scene with Eastbourne in 2018, winning the league and cup double with Eagles, and has moved to Mildenhall in 2019.

Shaun Tedham will join Jamie Sealey at reserve for Cheetahs.  He has a wealth of experience at both speedway and grasstrack, and he rode for Wightlink Warriors in 2018.
