Danny Phillips started his speedway career back in 2012, riding his very first laps around the Scunthorpe track during some organised practice sessions at the club’s training school.

   It wasn't long before he started taking part in amateur meetings, where he was spotted by the then Scunthorpe team manager Stuart Parnaby, who swiftly offered Danny a place in the Saints team, just three short months after his first ride on a speedway bike.

​

​   Danny grabbed the chance with both hands, but it proved a difficult baptism of fire for the talented youngster having to compete against some of the best prospects in junior racing.

​

​    He came back the following year with his ambitions firmly focussed on racing in the Midland Development League, along with as many second half bookings that he could fit into his racing schedule, and his progress was such that by the end of the season he was given a hand full of guest bookings to race with the Mildenhall Fen Tigers in the National League.

​

   Once again his racing ability put him firmly in the spotlight and his efforts were rewarded with an offer of a full team place to ride for Cradley during 2014.  After a solid campaign in the Midland’s club colours, Danny moved on to join Stoke where he quickly became one of the star names of the National League.

​

    And it was during his time with Stoke that he was given the opportunity to step up a division and race for Newcastle in the British Premier League, an opportunity that he could not refuse.  Moving up a division might have looked a step too far for the talented youngster, but while the racing was much tougher and the points harder to come by, his performances were good enough for the Newcastle promotion to offer him a contract in their team for 2017.

   Fully committed to his racing, and his ambition to become a full time speedway rider, Danny started the 2017 season in his best ever form by hitting double figure scores before heading to Mildenhall for a match that will always be burnt into his memory, and not for the right reasons.

​

   One minute he was coming up to the tapes for his opening race, the next being involved in a sickening, career threatening crash that saw him airlifted to hospital with a broken femur and spinal fractures, his season ended in a fraction of a second. 

​

   His determination to get back to full fitness proved that his passion for racing was as strong as ever, and having made a full recovery he was quickly back in training on the bike and carving shapes on the track once more.

​

   Danny's 2018 season saw him racing line-up with two British League tier clubs, Scunthorpe in the Championship League and Coventry in the National League riding out of Leicester.  It was a tough comeback year by Danny's own high standards, with points hard to come by in the Championship league, however he remained consistent in the National League and was a vital points scorer both home and away for the Lions.

   2019 saw Danny line up again in two leagues with two different clubs.  Back to his home ground with the Newcastle Diamonds in the Championship League, and a switch to the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester to ride for the Belle Vue Colts in the National League.  Despite a great season for the Colts, they were unable to secure a play off final place, making it to the semi finals, whilst the Diamonds fell short in the semi finals of the play offs and in the final of the Championship KO Cup.

  With the 2020 British League season cancelled due to the Corona Virus, Danny moved North to represent the Armadale 'Devils' in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons for their National League campaigns.  Two solid seasons on track for the Devils saw Danny rack up continuous high scores retaining his heat leader position in the team.

​

  Another move for the 2023 season, South a short distance down to Berwick to ride for the Bullets in their National League season.  Danny is once again fully setup, prepared and ready for another solid season, showing good form in the clubs opening couple of matches so far this season.
